GalaChain Hackathon Information

Schedule

The Hackathon will be 24 hours on March 20-21st and will be held both in-person and virtually.

Note: “Judges Choice” winners are still eligible for a chunk of the open and game track prize pool.

Rules

There aren’t many, but the standard rules we use in our Discord and in our EULAs apply. It’s pretty simple: No warranties on the software of any kind (this software is still in development) and be kind. We reserve the right to kick anyone out, but just be nice to your fellow developers and we should all get along. Please see Terms & Conditions for more specific information.

Winning Criteria

To be considered a winning team, you must use our Public SDK, present your project, and gather points based on the system below:

We will be judging on a scale from 1-10 in these areas:

1. Usability - How user friendly or intuitive is the application. Interface, instructions, clarity of objectives/features
2. Market Potential/Business Value - Is the application viable in the market?
3. Innovation - What level of creativity or uniqueness was used in the development of this application.
4. Technical Application

• Did you write your own chaincode?
• Does the Client app call your chaincode?
• Did you Deploy your Chaincode and is it visible on the Chain Browser?

5. Presentation - Does the presentation effectively communicate the teams’ goals and the applications features/functionality.

Prizes

In-person, the entire GalaChain team and our celebrity judges will be selecting the winners that take home a share of a staggering 1M$ in prizes. Plus, the winning teams will receive a one-of-a-kind-Legendary GalaChain GDC NFT. However, if you don’t win, you won’t be left empty handed. We’ll be awarding everyone an Epic GalaChain GDC participation NFT. Please note that you must have a Gala account to win prizes.

There will be 24 total prizes given. However, the prizes that will be announced March 21st is the Judges Choice. All other prizes will be determined after GDC week is over. Then, we will choose 21 additional teams for the following:

• Participation and Innovation Prizes
• Community Favorites
• Mini-Challenges

Judges Choice

“Judges Choice” will be evaluated and judged by our panel of Celebrity Judges.

Atmosphere

1. Regardless of your location, we will be conducting this hackathon in our GalaChain GalaChain Discord.
2. Each team will have their own private room with voice, text and screen sharing capabilities.
3. Don’t have a team? Don’t panic. Meet us in Discord using the above link. We will help find you a great team.
4. If you need engineering support, head to the discord link above and let the engineers on duty know you need assistance. Then, someone will pop into your private room (or come to your table) to help out.

Getting Started

First, pull down the Public SDK onto your machine.

Next, here’s a helpful flow to get you developing:

1. Read the Getting started guide. If you get stuck, contact a Gala engineer in the GalaChain General Discord chat.
2. Use the CLI to init a project from template and start a local environment
3. Use the samples in e2e tests and our reference docs for token operations to design the app flow
4. Use unit tests or any code/scripts to interact with the chain
5. Once deployed, validate using our Chain Browser.
6. Rinse, repeat until you’re happy with your hack.
7. Deploy your code to the GalaChain sandbox.
